Helpful Information

Finding Your Legal Location:
To obtain a permit, we have required that a legal description (Township/Section/Range) of the location for the debris burn be provided on the permit application. While this added step may cause some inconvenience, this information is critical to our efforts to protect and serve the community.

The Township/Section/Range information can be found on your property deed or tax notice, or by calling your county plat room.

The phone number for the Flathead County Plat Room is: 758-5510
For Lake County the phone number is: 883-7213

The legal location of your property can also be obtained from the Montana Cadastral Mapping website:

  1. Go to http://gis.mt.gov/
  2. Click on PARCEL SEARCH, which is at the top of the arc.
  3. Click OK at the bottom of the pop-up message.
  4. Click on the middle tab, labeled OWNER.
  5. Under the field labeled CHOOSE A COUNTY, select Flathead County or Lake County (wherever your property is located).
  6. In the field labeled PARCEL OWNER, type in your last name followed by a comma, then your first name or first initial, and click the SEARCH button.
  7. The results of the search will be displayed. The Township, Range and Section are listed to the right of the property owner's name. Make note of this information for your burn permit application.
If you own more than one parcel, be sure to correctly identify the legal location of the parcel on which you will be conducting your debris burn.
